Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) (Extended Club Mix) (1983) (6'01) - Paul Young.
Written by Norman Whitfield, Marvin Gaye and Barrett Strong.
Produced by Laurie Latham.
(P) 1983 CBS Inc.
"I remember we started off with a completely different drum pattern. We'd got the tempo, but it had a rather Phil Spector-style 'dum, dum-dum' beat to it. We'd put a rough bass part down, but then heard that Pino [Palladino] might be interested in playing on something. So we thought, let's get him in to play on this then. He heard the song, or the arrangement - and it made us stop and think, hang on, this could go in a completely different direction. So really, Pino led us into that arrangement." - Quote by Paul Young, May 2013, from the liner notes of the 2-CD collection Remixes And Rarities first released in 2013 by Cherry Pop Records, Cat. No. CRPOPD128.
