Brand New Lover (Up Ducky Mix) (1986) (6'26) - Dead Or Alive.
Produced by Stock Aitken Waterman for P.W.L.
Mix Master: Phil Harding.
(P) 1986 CBS Records.
"Brand New Lover was recorded at a time when SAW and Dead or Alive were all pushing each other to make their records bigger and better than the previously recorded tracks. With this particular mix we were obviously 'tipping the hat' to other 1980's pop tracks that were around in the UK charts at that time. We used to love fooling people as to where the downbeat came at the beginning of 12" club mixes as well and this is a good example of exactly that, when the kick drum comes in it sounds like it’s on the offbeat as opposed to the down beat, this is a great trick that makes the head spin until you settle into it. The way the track develops with key changes and bigger and more vocal overlapping vocal lines from Pete Burns is wonderful and dramatic and the backing vocals throughout the track going 'HEY HEY' would be a combination of studio yobs which could be any of the band members around who would be brave enough to go around the microphone and make fools of themselves!" - Phil Harding, remixer of Brand New Lover (Up Ducky Mix).
