"Thanks to Steve Anderson for reminding me of this one - my remix of Whitney Houston's 'Someone for Me' - I think the only song she ever released that wasn't a hit! (am I to blame?!!!) I think this was mixed from a 72 track tape (pretty unusual then?) using a SSL desk (which allowed complete digital recall of a mix - nowadays the norm using any program such as Logic and Cubase but not so then of course). This was fortunate as when I did the mix first, I left out part of the song because I thought it made the mix too long. Clive Davis (legendary US executive also seen on American Idol more recently and Whitney's mentor) loved my mix but asked me to go back in the studio to add the missing section, Thank goodness we didn't have to set up the whole mix again and get all the levels/effects the same! Using the SSL desk this didn't take long at all. " - Quote from a Facebook post by Alan Coulthard on 30 January 2016. Check out full quote here.

I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down (Special Remix) - Paul Young

I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down (Special Remix) (1985) (6'25) - Paul Young.
Written by Earl Randle.
Produced by Laurie Latham for LOL Productions.
Remixed by John Potoker.
Engineered by Tokes.
(P) 1985 CBS Records.

N.B. I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down (Special Remix) is the same mix as I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down (Remixed U.S. Dance Floor Smash) that may be found elsewhere on this blog.

I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down is a song written by Earl Randle, first recorded in 1972 by Ann Peebles.

"This (I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down) was staying true to the concept of finding rare soul songs and giving them a reworking. It just got wilder and wilder as it went on. We decided it should be a tougher song, because the lyrics are tough. We got Mark Pinder [drummer] out in the studio with a great big sheet of metal, which we suspended, and he whacked it with a metal hammer, which we sampled for the record. Those were the things that made recording fun." - Quote by Paul Young, May 2013, from the liner notes of the 2-CD collection Remixes And Rarities first released in 2013 by Cherry Pop Records, Cat. No. CRPOPD128.
