Monkey is a song written, arranged and produced by George Michael from his debut solo album for Columbia Records called Faith. First released as a single in 1988, Monkey topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks. In the UK, the song peaked at No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart. Monkey was the eighth single to go to No. 1 in the US, and the fourth consecutive No. 1 single from the album, Faith.

For the clubs, Monkey was remixed by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The record topped the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart for two weeks (September 17, 1988 - September 24, 1988) and gave George Michael is first US Billboard No. 1 dance hit.

The Special Remix of Monkey appears as the Extended Version on Side A of the U.S. 12" vinyl pressing released in 1987 on Columbia Records. Cat. No. 44 07849.
